Nonebody knows for sure how this whole thing started. Not even they can explain how five complete strangers, end up forming the most globalized and modern rock band of the last few years in our country: MANATARMS. Rock through out the world, from Santiago de Chile.
Its two o`clock in the afternoon, the summer is exploding. February is just getting started and the heat wave is almost unbereable. Meanwhile, Chinasky is listening to the vocal lines he just recorded among matresses and cables, spread all across the room. Its the MacGyver Academy, a little home studio made of sun dried brick walls, a space that carries the name of an oldschool T.V star, due to its precarious form and self impossed wit, necesary for the recording process of GALLAUDET, a record that stand out by its surprising quality. After years of wandering through traditional recording studios, MANATARMS failed in the persuit of an original sound and the necesary freedom to experiment, wich ended up convincing them that “the best way of doing things, is to do it by yourself”. That was the seed that drove them to the amaizing, almost surreal trip of producing their own record. This record, that was manufactured in the United States, is now being distributed for all the world through internet.
The first influences of MANATARMS comes with the music of the 90`, when grunge and alternative rock took over the musical scene worldwide. Bands such as Nirvana, Faith no More, Tool and Soundgarden drove the band through the path of rock music. MANATARMS gathered these influences along with clasics such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, King Crimson, Rush, Frank Zappa among others. Later, this references grown wider with contemporary bands such as A Perfect Circle, The Mars Volta, Queens of the Stone Age and Porcupine Tree. Perhaps those influences inspired the band to sang in english.
Being aware of the constant changes in the music industry regarding the global context, MANATARMS chose total Independence. Fruit of experience and role divisions, they have acomplished both state of the art work and a creative and original product of outstanding quality at a very low cost.
Today, MANATARM`S sound has its distinctive feature in the power and strength of its riffs and the cadence of its own atmospheres strongly complemented by the mellancolic but yet powerfull and determined melodic voice of Chinasky. Their songs are very hetherogenic and wide, but Rock music is always the element that remains, that unites them. The comitment is there and the challenge is already part of this guys life. Now, is only a matter of time, to wait and be wittness of what this peculiar band could be capable of.
